Rocky Hill Still Facing Added MDC Charge to Cover for Hartford

Extra assessments were included in the budget endorsed by the MDC finance board.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A plan by Metropolitan District Commission officials to slap several towns with extra assessments to cover Hartford's financial rear end appears to have cleared a major administrative hurdle.

The MDC's finance board on Wednesday approved sending the municipal water authority's fiscal year 2018 $167.2 million budget plan — which includes the assessments in a reserve find — to a vote by the full commission, the Hartford Courant Reported.

The vote would take place in December, according to the story.

  • West Hartford, $3.3 million

MDC officials contend that the reserve plan is necessary to show ratings agencies that a plan is in place to cover Hartford's costs should the city become insolvent or file for bankruptcy protection, according to the Courant story.
