Stand Down 2014 A Huge Success

The Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness and CT Heroes Project

Stand Down 2014 saw approximately 1,500 U.S. veterans come to the Veterans Administration campus in Rocky Hill on Friday Sept. 12, 2014.

The Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness partnered with the CT Heroes Project at the request of the CT DVA to organize housing and homeless services. Veteran Administration and Support Services for Veterans Families providers screened individuals for appropriate veteran housing. If an individual was not eligible, he or she was referred to mainstream housing services: Coordinated Access Networks from around the state provided representatives to assist those in need. More than 30 assessments of veterans in urgent need of housing assistance completed, a dozen or more homeless Veterans connected to services at the VA, and many more referred for housing assistance through CT Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) and mainstream providers.

Our collective efforts at Stand Down are an important part of our drive to reach – and house – every homeless veteran in Connecticut by 2015!
