'Stay Accredited' Will Hold Its Final Meeting Next Week

A local organization devoted to passing the $45 million high school referendum and addressing the  will have its last meeting ever Monday night. However, many members of "Stay Accredited" plan to stay together to form a new group focused on the future of Rocky Hill.

was formed in late January and observed the concerns in the NEASC report. In late March, the 30-year-old building , but was placed on a warning list by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges Inc. Commission on Public Secondary Schools.

The group focused its efforts on passing the referendum to have the high school renovated as new and the concerns in the NEASC report fixed. After the , the group's focus has changed.

"Other than the victory itself, perhaps the greatest feat of Stay Accredited was awakening the passion of residents across town," said Chairman Todd Cusano in an email Monday night. "Now that the referendum has passed, monitoring the process and assuring that we get what we bargained for is critical."

Cusano stated that some of the group's 300 members wanted to continue to working together for the betterment of the town and other residents are expected to join them. The group will be called "Stay Informed" and its mission "could be staying on top of the renovations, our schools overall, and the elected and town officials [currently] overseeing the future of our town," Cusano said in his email.

There could be at least one change with the new organization and that is politics may play a bigger role with the decisions of the group.

"Politics may enter the picture, as there is a strong sentiment that changes in our town are vitally needed," Cusano said in the email.

The meeting will be held on June 25 at 7 p.m. inside the council chambers at . Anyone interested in joining the group is asked to attend. Many topics are expected to be discussed at the meeting including plans for the remaining three schools, fire safety violations at the school buildings and what if "Stay Accredited" was never formed.
