Students Tackle Controversial Topics Through Art

The annual art gallery showcases the work of approximately 400 high school students.

 

The work of about 400 students was on display Wednesday night as the was held inside the Gymnasium.

The students ranging from freshmen to seniors made everything from sculptures to ceramic houses to pottery to digital art and even photography. One of the newest projects was the copper artwork.

"We tried to do the gamut from traditional to digital," said art teacher Eileen Schnyder. "Each year the projects differ a little bit."

The tape sculpture, which was inspired by NPR podcast about advertising on the Internet, was one of the "more unique projects" done by the students, according to Schnyder.

"I really like it a lot," she said. "They worked really hard on it."

The show also allowed the teachers a chance to show students how to properly display their artwork. She said the placement of pieces of art based on eye level and color scheme is important to having a successful show.

"You got to look for how the eyes are going to move," she said. "They (students) are start getting into it."

Overall, Schnyder was pleased with the work of her students.

"I think they did a bang up job," she said.

Her fellow art teachers could not agree more with her assessment.

"It is impressive for us. We kinda of see it out of context a lot, not ready for display," said photography teacher Daniel Hott.
