Armed Robbery Reported At Shelton Liquor Store: Police

Police said a man entered the store with an AR-15 rifle and demanded money.

SHELTON, CT — A man accused of robbing a Shelton liquor store Monday night was arrested less than four hours after the incident was reported, according to police.

In a news release, police said Shelton officers were called to Cleto's Wine Spirts & Ale on Howe Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

According to police, a man between 40 and 50 years old entered the store with an AR-15 rifle and demanded money, then left the store with cash and other items.

Officers were able to get video surveillance that identified the suspect's vehicle and the information was sent to other police departments. Seymour police also responded to the store and provided assistance with a K9 track.

Derby and New Haven police quickly contacted Shelton officers and provided more information based on the video surveillance, and West Haven officers later spotted the vehicle around 10 p.m., police said.

Around 11 p.m., the suspect was found in Hartford by state police and arrested.

Jose Balseiro, 49, was charged with first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny, as well as violation of probation. He was held on a $225,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court this week, police said.

"The quick apprehension of the suspect was a result of several law enforcement agencies working together and sharing information with the goal to get this suspect swiftly into custody," police said in a news release.
