Beloved Shelton Police Officer, 41, Mourned After 'Sudden' Death
Police said Officer Jesse Butwell, a beloved 15-year veteran of the Shelton Police Department, died unexpectedly at the age of 41.
SHELTON, CT — Shelton police announced Thursday the unexpected death of Officer Jesse Butwell, a beloved 15-year veteran of the department.
He was 41 at the time of his death, according to police.
"It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Officer Jesse Butwell," Shelton police said on Facebook. "He was the department's training officer. Condolences to his parents and family."

In an email to Patch, Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said Butwell was a dedicated officer with a positive attitude who cared for others.
"More importantly, he developed close friendships with many of his coworkers and was well liked by all members of the department," Kozlowsky said. "He was always willing to help his fellow employees. This was one of the reasons he was selected as the training officer."

Kozlowsky also noted Butwell loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman who enjoyed ice fishing in the winter.
The Shelton Fire Department posted a tribute to Butwell on their Facebook page Thursday night.
"The officers and members of the Shelton Fire Department wish to express their deepest condolences to Officer Butwell's family and the entire Shelton Police Department," the post reads. "Our thoughts and prayers for you all."
A GoFundMe campaign was set up Friday by the Shelton Police Association to raise money for a memorial service and help with additional unexpected costs.
As of Friday at 4:30 p.m., the campaign has already raised over $3,600. Those who wish to donate can do so here.
The GoFundMe's description describes Butwell as "one of the best guys and best officers" in Shelton.
"Jesse spent the majority of his career on dayshift and recently switched gears to help the department out in the training division," the description reads. "It was impossible not to like Jesse with his goofy laugh, funny jokes and easy-going personality."
