Cat Killed In Shelton House Fire: FD

Fire officials said four residents and a dog were safely evacuated from the house after a fire broke out in an attached garage.

SHELTON, CT — A cat was killed in a fire that broke out in the attached garage of a Shelton home early Sunday morning, according to fire officials.

In a news release posted to Facebook, fire officials said a garage fire was reported around 4 a.m. at a Ripton Road home.

When firefighters arrived, they noticed flames were visible through the roof of the home's attached three-car garage. Crews used three hose lines to suppress the fire, officials said.

When crews entered the home, they found a small amount of fire and extensive heat damage inside. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes and crews remained at the house for some time as they checked for hot spots, officials said.

All four residents and a dog were safely evacuated from the house, however a cat was killed, according to fire officials.

The house was deemed not habitable and the American Red Cross is working on relocating the residents, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
