City Provides Winter Storm Updates For Derby Residents: Sidewalks, Trash Collection

A major snowstorm that brought large amounts of snow across the state Sunday into Monday afternoon.

DERBY, CT — The city has provided a list of winter storm updates as of Monday night following a major snowstorm that brought large amounts of snow across the state.

In an email around 7 p.m., Town Clerk Marc Garofalo provided the following winter storm updates for Derby residents:

  • Hydrants: Please help clear three feet around nearby fire hydrants to assist volunteer firefighters if you are able.
  • Sidewalks: Property owners are responsible for snow and ice removal under City Ordinance 172:1-19.
  • Road Crews Working: Please be patient as roads are cleared. Public Works crews are working extended hours.
  • Report Issues: Submit snow-related concerns to Public Works directly at: //www.derbyct.gov/Reportapothole.
  • On Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026:
    • Derby City Hall, Derby Senior Center, and Derby Public Library will open to the public at noon.
    • Trash and recycling will be picked up (Monday's route). All collections delayed one day this week.
    • Derby Public Schools are closed.
  • Snow Emergency Remains in Effect: Per Mayor Joseph DiMartino, vehicles must park on the even-numbered side of streets until the emergency is lifted.
  • Parking Available: The Derby Municipal Parking Garage (2 Thompson Place) is open to downtown residents free of charge until 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026.
