"During the [COVID-19] pandemic, residents of Crosby Commons began exploring opportunities to support local organizations," Lauren Donovan, activities director at the Shelton senior living community, said in a news release, "and the Crosby Cares Committee was created to help identify and collaborate on these community outreach projects."

Over the years, the committee has been involved in several different projects, according to UMH.

"We packed snacks for teachers at neighboring Long Hill Elementary School during the first week of school," Bisson said, "donated books to a local lending library, created Hearts of Hope for cancer patients, and put together care packages for the Bridgeport Area Mission, just to name a few."

According to Donovan, everyone needs purpose in their lives, especially as they age.

"A project that residents can be involved in independently to support organizations like Adam's House offers a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment," Donovan said.

A total of six handmade blankets were donated by the Crosby Cares Committee to Adam's House.

Residents visited Adam's House to put the finishing touches on the blankets while Allison Wysota, founder of Adam’s House, shared the story behind the mission and the services the organization provides to families, according to UMH.

"We were so happy to have help from the energetic residents of Crosby Commons," Wysota said in a news release. "As a non-profit organization, we are always grateful to the volunteers, friends and donors who help us in supporting grieving children and families throughout Connecticut and beyond."
