Derby Budget Snafu Could Cause Taxes To Skyrocket
An accounting error has left the city in the hole and could potentially cause a large tax increase.
DERBY, CT — Derby property taxes could go up as much as 6.8 mills after it was discovered that a $1.2 million grant from the state was entered into accounting spreadsheets twice.
The error could date back to at least fiscal year 2016-2017, according to the Connecticut Post.
The state Department of Education is now reviewing the case to see if the city was in compliance with minimum budget requirements.
