Derby Fire Department Promotes New Chief, Officers
The Derby Fire Department promoted and installed new chief officers and a safety officer during a recent ceremony.
DERBY, CT — The Derby Fire Department promoted and installed new chief officers, including a new chief of the department, and a safety officer during a ceremony Saturday morning.
In a Facebook post, fire officials said First Assistant Chief Michael Gloade was promoted to chief of the department.
Second Assistant Chief Thomas Biggs was promoted to Gloade's former position while Louis Oliwa, the department's third assistant chief, was promoted to Biggs' position.

Additionally, Jesse Marino was installed as a new third assistant chief and Daniel Mascolo was sworn in as a safety officer.
The new officers received the oath of office from Mayor Richard Dziekan and Commissioner Gary Parker during a ceremony held at Derby Middle School, during which they thanked everyone, especially department members and their families, for their sacrifice and support of the fire service, fire officials said.

Dziekan and Parker also thanked former Fire Chief David Lenart for leading the department over the past two years, fire officials said.
