Update: Derby Police Make Contact with Relatives of Deceased Pedestrian

Updated at 9:51 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016: Derby police announced Wednesday that the department has made contact with relatives of Alfredo Simoes, the 57-year-old homeless man who was struck and killed by a car on June 23.

"The victim’s next of kin was notified of the accident and called the police," wrote Police Lt. Justin Stanko in a statement.

Police had sought the public's help in finding Simoes' relatives after initial attempts had proven unsuccessful.

Simoes was homeless, police said, and they have not been able to track down his relatives, according to multiple media reports.

The accident occurred near Chapel Street just before midnight on the 23rd. Simoes was walking eastbound on Route 34, in the middle of the street, when he was hit, reports the New Haven Register.

Police said Simoes' last known address was New Haven, writes Fox61 News.
