Household Waste, Paint Collection Event Open To Derby Residents

The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governements will host a collection event open to a number of nearby towns, including Derby.

DERBY, CT — The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governements will host a household hazardous waste and paint collection event next month open to a number of nearby towns, including Derby.

According to a flyer, the free event will be held Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Prospect Elementary School.

The collection even is open to residents of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Derby, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, Prospect, Seymour, Southbury, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott and Woodbury.

Items such as oil and latex-based paints, thermometers and thermostats containing mercury, drain and oven cleaners, metal polishes and automotive cleaners will be accepted, while items such as auto batteries, motor oil, smoke detectors and explosives will not. A full list can be found here.

Proof of residency if required for entrance to the event. Up to 50 pounds of residential waste will be accepter per vehicle.
