Invitation to Celebrate Historical Document Presentation

Lucinda Tomko and family will be making a donation of many Revolutionary Period documents and journals to the Derby Historical Society. Join us for a special celebration with local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, NSDAR and the Derby Historical Society invite you to celebrate the donation of the “Margaret Tucker Monnie Legacy Historical Document Collection: Revolutionary War Era Deeds, Declarations, and Dispatches” on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 at the Derby Historical Society 37 Elm Street, Ansonia.

All are welcome to attend and light refreshments will be provided. Parking will be on the side streets Vose St. and Thomas St. Many local dignitaries are expected.

Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter Regent Jeaneen Buchanan has been in contact with Lucinda Tomko, an Illinois DAR member and Margaret Monnie’s niece who, with her uncle William M. Monnie, has donated 70 Revolutionary War era deeds, declarations and dispatches to the Derby Historical Society. Lucinda Tomko has also created a database indexing these documents for further research. Regent Buchanan expressed her appreciation in bringing these Revolutionary War documents of Reuben Tucker to the Derby Historical Society.

This historical document collection provides first-hand accounts of Reuben Tucker and his contemporaries who lived in Derby at that time. The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, NSDAR has made it a mission to raise awareness of patriots who supported the cause of liberty during the American Revolutionary War through their Chapter’s 250! Committee. The donation of these documents is a valuable resource to learn about how the Revolution affected those living in and around Derby.

DAR members come from a variety of backgrounds and interests, but all share a common bond of having an ancestor who helped contribute to securing the independence of the United States of America. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible to join.
