Lauretti Criticizes Clouet Over Shelton High Probe Handling

The matter stems from a reported sexual assault that was reported to Shelton High administrators.

SHELTON, CT — Mayor Mark Lauretti sharply criticized Superintendent Chris Clouet's handling of Shelton High Principal Beth Smith hand Assistant Principal John Skerritt during a police investigation.

Lauretti said that Clouet's actions could open the city to legal trouble, according to the Shelton Herald.

Clouet blasted back that Lauretti shouldn't comment on an open investigation.

Smith and Skerritt were placed on leave after it was learned they were under police investigation following their handling of a reported sexual assault. Smith and Skerritt were asked to stop investigating while police handled the matter.

Police planned to file an arrest warrant, but prosecutors decided not to take up the case.
