Mayor Lauretti Proclaims Women's History Month

Mayor Mark A. Lauretti proclaimed March 2024 Women’s History Month and presented the proclamation to Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, NSDAR Regent Jeaneen Buchanan.

In presenting the Women’s History Month Proclamation Mayor Lauretti noted that American women have played and continue to play a critical economic, cultural, and social role in every sphere of our Nation’s life. He also noted that despite women’s contributions to the growth and strength of our nation, the role of American women in history has been consistently overlooked and undervalued in the body of American history. Mayor Lauretti said he is proud to Proclaim March 2024 as Women’s History Month.

In accepting the Proclamation, Regent Buchanan thanked the Mayor and noted that the Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism and preserving American history. Regent Buchanan also noted that the DAR was established on October 11, 1890 and is an organization with a deeply rich history while also being truly relevant in today’s world. More than 1,000,000 women have joined the organization since its founding 134 years ago and the members honor their heritage as well as a make a difference in their communities across the country and the world.

The DAR perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence. Any woman who is lineally descended from an ancestor who aided the patriot cause during the American Revolution may be eligible to join.
