Requests For Payment In Gift Cards Likely A Scam: Shelton PD
If a caller asks for payment for something in gift cards, beware.
SHELTON, CT — That caller or stranger who asks that you pay for something using gift cards? It's likely a scam, Shelton police warn.
"Gift cards are the #1 payment method for imposter scams," police officials wrote in a statement on Facebook. The post links to a Federal Trade Commission video about such scams.
More scammers are demanding payment with a gift card, police say, because once these criminals obtain the code on the back of the card, the money is gone "and almost impossible to trace."
