Update: Derby Man Killed in Car vs. Motorcycle Crash on Route 8

Updated at 9:18 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016: A 53-year-old Derby man was killed Monday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle Monday afternoon on Route 8 northbound in Shelton, according to state police.

Shawn P. Reynolds was traveling behind a vehicle driven by Tarnas Rati, 37, of Shelburne, Ontario, Canada, when Reynolds tried to merge into the center lane and struck Rati's vehicle from behind, state police said.

Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene; Rati did not sustain any injuries.

Rati has not been charged but the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about it is asked to contact state police Trooper Caez at 203-393-4200 ext. 3085.

Original story: Shelton, CT - A serious motorcycle vs. vehicle crash was reported Monday afternoon on Route 8 in Shelton, according to state police.

At least one of the people involved suffered life-threatening injuries, said Trooper First Class Kelly Grant in a statement.

The northbound lanes were closed by the investigation, but vehicles were getting by in right shoulder. State police have since reopened Route 8 for all traffic.

The crash occurred at about 3:54 p.m. northbound between exits 12 and 13.
