Shelton Democratic Town Committee Elects New Chairperson
The Shelton DTC recently elected its new chairperson, marking the first time in its history that a woman will lead the committee.
SHELTON, CT — The Shelton Democratic Town Committee announced Tuesday that Patricia "Patti" Moonan has been elected as its new chairperson, marking the first time in the DTC's history that a woman will lead the committee.
According to a news release provided by the DTC, Moonan is a respected community leader and dedicated public servant who is currently serving her fourth term on the Shelton Board of Education.
"Throughout her tenure, [Moonan] has been a strong advocate for students, families and educators," the release reads, "championing policies that support safe, equitable and high-quality learning environments."

According to the DTC, Moonan is also a founding member of the Lady Ds Scholarship Fund, a community-funded nonprofit that has provided thousands of dollars in scholarship support to young female leaders in Shelton.
The fund "reflects her long-standing commitment to empowering the next generation and expanding opportunities for young women across the community," the release reads.

Moonan is also a licensed marriage and family therapist, specializing in trauma-informed care.
According to the DTC, Moonan "played a critical role in supporting children and families in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook tragedy, bringing compassion, stability and professional expertise to a community in crisis."
Her background in mental health and trauma recovery continues to inform her leadership style and her deep commitment to public service, according to the committee.
"I truly see myself as a public servant," Moonan said in a news release. "Shelton is my home, and I care deeply about our families, our neighborhoods and our future. I'm honored to lead the DTC, and I look forward to strengthening our organization, expanding community engagement and supporting candidates who reflect our shared values."
As chairperson, Moonan intends "to leverage her passion for Shelton, her experience in education and mental health and her long record of community involvement to grow and energize the DTC, build stronger connections with residents and support efforts that move the city forward," according to the DTC.
Other newly elected DTC leaders include Kevin Kosty as vice chair, Lorraine Rossner as secretary and Denise Deeds as treasurer, according to the committee.
