Shelton Man Behind Atheist Solstice Sign Named Atheist of the Year

SHELTON, CT - A man responsible for an atheist winter solstice sign that has garnered attention has been named Atheist of the Year, according to CT Post.

Jerry Bloom recently fought for the right to erect a sign on the Huntington Green to mark the winter solstice and express an atheistic message, the CT Post reported. The state chapter of the American Atheists Inc. has shown its support by naming him Atheist of the Year.

American Atheist officials commended Bloom for not just his actions, but for the fact that he did so without help from the organization, according to CT Post. Mayor Mark Lauretti recently erected a sign next to Bloom’s that expressed a “merry christmas” from Shelton.
