Shelton Man Charged After Robbing Woman, Stealing Her Car: Police

The robbery happened Friday near the Shelton Post Office when the man slipped into the woman's backseat and demanded money, police said.

SHELTON, CT — A Shelton man is facing multiple charges after police said he robbed an elderly woman Friday before stealing her car.

Shelton police said Francisco Delgado, 33, was arrested Saturday and charged with third-degree robbery, motor vehicle theft, and interfering with an officer. Delgado was taken into custody and is being held on $50,000 bond, police said.

According to authorities, an elderly woman was using the drop mailbox at the Shelton Post Office when the robbery occurred. Police said Delgado climbed into the backseat when she returned to her car and demanded money. After the woman gave him money, he told her to leave before stealing her car.

The next day, police said a Shelton officer was on patrol when he spotted the stolen car driven by Delgado on Howe Avenue near Route 8. After surveilling the vehicle, authorities said the officer found Delgado near the unoccupied vehicle on Lakeview Avenue.

After a brief chase, police said Delgado was taken into custody in a wooded area near Roberts Street.

Delgado is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Monday.
