Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti Is Running For Governor: Report

The city's long-time Republican mayor filed paperwork for his candidacy this week.

SHELTON, CT — Mayor Mark Lauretti, Shelton's top executive for more than 25 years, made it official this week by filing papers to run for governor, reports the Connecticut Post.

He had made his intentions clear earlier this year, and is the first Republican to officially throw his hat in the ring for the nomination. This will mark the mayor's third attempt at the governor's office, following unsuccessful tries in 2010 and 2014.

Lauretti could face challenges for the party's nomination from Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst, among others.
