SRH-MS Chapter Participated in the Massing of the Colors

The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, NSDAR participated in the 56th Massing of the Colors hosted by the Society of the Descendants of the Founders of Hartford on October 22, 2023 at the First Church of Christ Congregational in West Hartford, CT. Regent Buchanan represented the Chapter and Vice Regent Deborah Heim carried the Chapter Flag.

The Massing of the Colors is a patriotic ceremony to rededicate our faith in the colors of the United States and to present our support to those Colors and of the servicemen and women those Colors represent. It combines the colors and color guards of active and reserve component military units, veterans’ organizations, civic, and patriotic organizations.

The ceremonies at the First Church of Christ Congregational included the Presentation of the National Flag by the Color Guard of the Governor Oliver Wolcott Branch, CT Society SAR. State Regent Lisa Melland attended on behalf of CTDAR. There was also an interesting talk given by Rev. Mr. Christopher J. Bauer, Pastor of the Collinsville Congregational Church entitled “Faith of our Fathers". Following the ceremony, light refreshments were served.

SRH-MS Chapter Regent Buchanan said it was truly an honor for her to represent the Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Regent Buchanan also said the DAR is supportive of women who serve our nation and was proud to join the other hereditary organizations honoring our service men and women. She also noted that the United States will be commemorating its 250th anniversary and the SRH-MS Chapter celebrates the stories of our ancestors who made America especially those in the Shelton-Stratford-Fairfield area.

The DAR is a non-profit women’s service organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism. Any woman over 18 who can prove lineal descent to an ancestor who served in the American Revolution is a prospective member.
