Stable Tax Rate Proposed In Shelton
Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti is proposing a slight decrease in the mill rate.

SHELTON, CT — Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti proposed a slight decrease to the town mill rate from 22.21 to 22.15 after proposing a $124 million combined town and Board of Education budget.
It would be the 10th year without a tax increase in Shelton.
"A stable mill rate continues to attract new businesses to Shelton and has allowed business retention and expansion," Lauretti said. "A consistent mill rate proves that Shelton does not need to engage in temporary corporate subsidies or other gimmicks to retain and attract businesses and entrepreneurs."

Lauretti criticized the state for taking a different path over the years that has led to more tax increases and unfunded mandates. Lauretti is running for governor this year.
"We have held the line on taxes and this has been the catalyst for the resurgence in downtown development and the expansion of our Grand List," he said.
