Fairfield Prep Mourns Student Killed In Shelton Stabbing: UPDATE
A Shelton teen killed in a stabbing incident over the weekend has been identified as a 17-year-old student and athlete at Fairfield Prep.

SHELTON, CT — Police have identified a Fairfield College Preparatory School student who was killed in a stabbing incident late Saturday night in Shelton.
In a news release, Police Detective Richard Bango confirmed James McGrath, 17, of Shelton, died Sunday following the incident. He also noted the investigation was ongoing.

In a lengthy statement released Monday by the school, Fairfield Prep officials extended their deepest sympathies to all who knew McGrath, a junior at the school.
"The Fairfield Prep community mourns the loss of junior Jimmy McGrath and we extend our deepest sympathies to the McGrath family," the statement reads. "Jimmy was a beloved student and athlete on the football and lacrosse teams, and will forever be a member of the Prep Brotherhood."

According to the school, over 1,000 people gathered for a private prayer service on campus Sunday, which was followed by a school-wide service Monday morning, during which Christian Cashman, the school's president, addressed students, faculty and staff.
"I offer once again Prep's loving condolence and embrace of the McGrath family," Cashman said in a statement. "May the spirit of healing peace and love enfold them, and may we be instruments of peace and healing in the days ahead. May God bless Jimmy McGrath, Class of 2023, forever a man for others, forever a son of Fairfield Prep."
In the coming days, the leadership team, Jesuit priests, campus ministers and counselors of both Fairfield Prep and Fairfield University will offer their support and help to students and faculty grieving this tragic loss.
A GoFundMe has been also set up to help support the McGrath family at this time. As of Monday evening, the campaign has raised over $37,000 and received over 500 donations.

On Saturday, Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said in a news release police and EMS were called to Laurel Glen Drive just before midnight after receiving a report of a fight and a stabbing. When they arrived in the area, police found numerous teenagers outside a home.

Officers located four stabbing victims, who were given medical attention and sent to a hospital. A 17-year-old man, now identified as McGrath, was later pronounced dead, Kozlowsky said.
"Detectives responded and took over the investigation with assistance from the patrol division and the Milford State's Attorney's Office," Kozlowsky said in a news release. "This is an active ongoing investigation at this time. No arrests have been made at this point."
