'Tight' Shelton Schools Budget Reportedly Could Grow Next Year

The city's Board of Education has begun crunching numbers for the 2017-18 school year.

SHELTON, CT — While exact numbers are not yet available, next year's school budget in Shelton could rise, reports the Connecticut Post.

The Board of Education reportedly is bracing for the possibility of an increase to its already "tight" budget, and the group has begun crunching numbers for 2017-18. This year's education budget stands at $70.4 million, or about $14,700 per pupil.

One potential factor that could affect spending is the outstanding teachers' contract, which is currently under negotiation. Additionally, costs could also rise to send students to out-of-district schools, such as the Bridgeport Magnet School.
