Valley Residents Stepped Up and Gave Generously During Great Give
36-Hour Online Giving Extravaganza Raises Millions for Region's Nonprofits
DERBY, CT – Valley nonprofits raised more than $405,000 during the 2023 Great Give last week, making the 36-hour online giving event one of its most successful.
In all, donors gave more than $3.5 million through The Great Give supporting more than 516 nonprofits throughout the Valley and Greater New Haven Region.
In the Valley, a record number 55 area nonprofits participated this year, and more than 1825 donations were made by people who live and/or work in the Valley. Also, more than $240,000 of the Valley total was donated by 19 Valley Community Foundation (VCF) Donor Advised fund holders.

“Once again Valley residents showed their true colors of generosity,” said Sharon Closius, VCF’s President and CEO. “Our Valley nonprofits do so much, and this year’s Great Give outcome is just more evidence of how appreciative Valley residents are of their nonprofits and the work they do.”
The top three Valley organizations that raised the most money during the Great Give were: BHcare ($67,954); TEAM, Inc. ($53,671); and The Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley ($38,074). Adams House and the Valley United Way also made the top 25 list of the most money raised out of the 516 organizations that participated.

The 36-hour online-giving event was started in 2010 by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven (TCF) to promote local philanthropy and support area nonprofits. In the last 13 years, The Great Give has raised more than $24 million for nonprofits throughout the region.
