Bear Pays Visit To Simsbury Playground
A bear was spotted at a school playground in Simsbury on Monday.

SIMSBURY, CT — A bear paid a visit to the playground at Simsbury's Central School Monday morning, authorities said.
It was a brief visit and police had no information on where the bear might be headed.
Simsbury animal control officer Mark Rudewicz said the call came in at about 7:30 a.m.

A mother bear and three cubs have been frequenting the area, but usually pose no threat, he said. He did maintain anyone seeing her and the young ones should keep a distance. Bears tend to forage out in the open this time of year because the food supply, save for some "fall acorns" is in short supply.

Simsbury had 429 reported bear sightings between Oct. 2, 2017 and Sept. 25 of this year, according to DEEP statistics.
