SIMSBURY, CT — Here are some recent notable achievements for college students from Simsbury, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Clemson University, Clemson SC

  • Clemson University has named local students to the President's List for the fall 2016 semester.
    They are Brian Maher of West Simsbury, who is majoring in General Engineering, and Katherine R. Worthen of West Simsbury, who is majoring in Communication. To be named to the President's List, a student must achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.
  • Local students have been named to the Dean's List at Clemson University for the fall 2016 semester.
    They are Annie Mckay Deliso of Simsbury, who is majoring in College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities; Hayes Patrick Martin of Simsbury, who is majoring in Pre-Business; and Julie M. Longfritz of Weatogue, who is majoring in Pre-Business. To be named to the Dean's List, a student achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Ithaca College congratulates students named to Dean's List for the fall 2016 semester. Cassidy Bronsord, a resident of West Simsbury and Accounting major, was named to the Dean's List in Ithaca College's School of Business, while Christopher Hauser, a resident of Simsbury and Performance/Music Education major, was named to the Dean's List in Ithaca College's School of Music.

Loyola University Maryland, Baltimore MD

  • MaryKate Bourdon, a member of the class of 2017 from Simsbury, has been named to the fall 2016 Dean's List at Loyola University Maryland. In order to qualify for the Dean's List at Loyola, a student must achieve a minimum QPA of at least 3.500 for the term, provided that, in the term they have successfully completed courses totaling a minimum of 15 credits.

Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester NY

  • A trio of Simsbury residents made the Dean's List at Rochester Institute of Technology for fall semester 2016-2017. They are Andrew Doran, who is studying in the biomedical engineering program; Rowan Ogilvie, who is studying in the bioinformatics program; and Jack Tighe, who is studying in the electrical engineering program. Degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean's List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of "Incomplete", "D" or "F"; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

Stonehill College, Easton MA

  • Several Stonehill College students, including Jennifer Kornacki of Simsbury, sang for Pope Francis as part of a seven-day pilgrimage to Italy for the College Chapel Choir. The honor of singing for the Pope came as part of a weeklong pilgrimage to Italy for 32 Stonehill students, three alumni, three college staff, and 17 family members. In addition to their performance for the Pope, the Choir, which is known for its joyful liturgical music, provided music for Mass in St. Peter's Basilica and at a concert at the San Lorenzo International Youth Center. Along with those performances in Rome, the group visited Florence and Assisi to savor Italian culture, art and history.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • Nicholas Carabillo of Simsbury, a member of the class of 2018 majoring in chemical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense, hands-on research project in Venice. The project was titled Made in Venice: Past, Present, and Future. In their project outline, the students wrote, "Our project focused on identifying business sectors in the non-tourist industry of Venice, Italy that have the potential to flourish." At WPI, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-driven, professional-level project that applies science and technology to addresses an important societal need or issue. About two-thirds of students complete a project at one of the university's more than 40 off-campus project centers, which are located around the world. A signature element of the innovative undergraduate experience at WPI, the project-based curriculum offers students the opportunity to apply their scientific and technical knowledge to develop thoughtful solutions to real problems that affect the quality of people's lives-and make a difference before they graduate.
