Prominent Simsbury Nonprofit Names New Leader As Longtime Leader Retires
A new CEO was named recently at New Horizons in Unionville, succeeding the former chief of eight years.
SIMSBURY, CT — Ashley Dunn has been appointed chief executive officer of New Horizons, Inc., taking over April 3, the Unionville-based nonprofit announced.
Dunn succeeds Carol Fitzgerald, who retired after 19 years with the organization, including eight years as CEO.
The appointment follows what the organization described as a comprehensive and competitive search process.

Dunn was selected to lead New Horizons as it continues expanding its housing, healthcare, and community-based services across Connecticut.
Dunn takes over during a period of growth for the nonprofit.

Under Fitzgerald’s leadership, New Horizons expanded housing opportunities, completed campus renovations, and launched programs including Sunshine Wheels, a non-emergency medical transportation service operating across the region.
Fitzgerald will remain involved in an advisory role, working with Dunn and the leadership team to support ongoing initiatives and ensure a smooth transition.
“I am honored to step into the role of CEO and to continue the important work of New Horizons,” Dunn said. “Carol’s leadership has created an incredibly strong foundation, and I look forward to working with our dedicated team to further strengthen our programs, expand our reach, and continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.”
New Horizons operates multiple divisions, including New Horizons Village, Cherry Brook Healthcare Center, and New Horizons Middlebury, and focuses on providing accessible housing, healthcare, and community services.
The organization is headquartered in Unionville (Simsbury) and serves communities across the state, including the Farmington Valley region.
