Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • Claire Keating, of Simsbury, was one of 653 graduates to receive a degree during Assumption College's 100th Commencement exercises on Sunday, May 14, held at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester, MA, in which speaker John L. Allen, Jr., editor of Crux, a publication that focuses on news of the Vatican and Catholic Church, delivered the Commencement address. Keating received a Bachelor of Arts degree.

  • Jeffrey Drew of Weatogue graduated from Becker College at its 229th Commencement ceremony, on May 6, 2017. Drew earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Cum Laude. Becker College honored 464 candidates for graduation from undergraduate and graduate degree programs and the Accelerated Studies program.

Belmont University, Nashville TN

  • Lauren Law and Michael Rooney of Simsbury achieved the Dean's List at Belmont University for the spring 2017 semester. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C. Approximately 30 percent of Belmont's 7,700 students qualified for the spring 2017 Dean's List.

  • A pair of West Simsbury residents graduated from Clemson University at the May 2017 commencement ceremonies. Jack Vincent Genovese III graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics, and Katherine R. Worthen graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. More than 3,400 students received degrees at the May 11 and 12 ceremonies.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Eastern Connecticut State University's annual graduation ceremony was held at the XL Center in Hartford on May 16, with more than 12,000 family members and friends cheering on their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, as 1,180 undergraduates and 58 graduate students received their diplomas. Graduates from Simsbury were Chazeray Briscoe, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Andrew Girard, Bachelor of Science in Sport and Leisure Management; Craig Williams, Bachelor of Arts in Social Work; and Michael Zabel, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.

Emerson College, Boston MA

  • Kelly Salina, a resident of Simsbury, has been named to the Emerson College Dean's List for the spring 2017 semester. Salina is majoring in Writing Lit and Publishing BFA. The requirement to make Emerson's Dean's List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

Keene State College, Keene NH

  • Kyle Ober of Simsbury was recently named to the spring 2017 dean's list at Keene State College. Ober was among 1,245 students who were honored for academic excellence in the spring 2017 semester. To qualify for the dean's list, Keene State undergraduates must be enrolled in a degree program and must have completed a minimum of 12 graded credits in the semester. Students must achieve a 3.5 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale to earn dean's list honors.

Marist College, Poughkeepsie NY

  • A quartet of Simsbury residents graduated from Marist College the weekend of May 19.
    Nathaniel Lungarini received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies - Interactive Media and Game Design. Colby Moore received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Samantha Monroe received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology - Special Education. Renee Carlson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.

St. Lawrence University, Canton NY

  • Michael D. Gellman of Simsbury was one of more than 600 students who were awarded bachelor degrees from St. Lawrence University during Commencement ceremonies held on May 21 in Canton, New York. Gellman received the degree of bachelor of arts and majored in government. Gellman attended Simsbury High School.

Union College, Schenectady NY

  • Now in its 27th year, Union College's Steinmetz Symposidum Day has grown from its debut in April 1991, when 130 students presented, to one that now features nearly 500 students. It features an extensive array of oral presentations, posters, performances and exhibits, with concurrent sessions held all day in lieu of regularly scheduled classes. The evening includes a reception and musical performances. Those students included as presenters are Kevin Jordan of West Simsbury, a member of the Class of 2018, and Meghan Keegan of Simsbury, a member of the Class of 2017.

University of Albany, Albany NY

  • Amy Sickinger of Weatogue graduated with a degree in Biology.

University of New Hampshire, Durham NH

  • A pair of local students participated in the University of New Hampshire Commencement Ceremony held Saturday, May 20, 2017, in Durham, N.H. Students who received the honor of summa cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.85-4.0; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.65-3.84; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.50-3.64. Cooper Snowdon of Simsbury graduated with a BS degree in RMP: Program Administration. Alyssa Richman of West Simsbury graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS degree in BiomedSci: MedMicro.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

  • Madeline Mancarella earned two awards in the Western New England University 15th annual Student Media Festival. Her TV Report, titled Dinning Commons, took Third Place in the TV Report category and Verbal Abuse, her PSA/TV Commercial entry, won Second Place in the PSA/TV category. Mancarella is a Communication major at the University concentrating on Media Theory and Production.

Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre PA

  • Wilkes University awarded 782 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees at its 70th spring commencement ceremonies on May 20. Rachel Leach of Weatogue received a Master of Science in Education.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • Three local residents were among 1,319 students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the spring 2017 semester. John Pugmire of Simsbury is a member of the class of 2019 majoring in computer science and mathematical sciences. Spencer Ralphs of Simsbury is a member of the class of 2019 majoring in mechanical engineering. Megan Hanshaw of Weatogue is a member of the class of 2018 majoring in civil engineering. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.
