Man Breaks Into Simsbury Business, Forces Its Evacuation

Police said the man was involved in an accident, fled the scene on foot, and broke into the business.

Police say a man involved in a motor vehicle accident, fled the scene, forced entry into a commercial business leading to the evacuation of the business Wednesday, all before the suspect was apprehended.

The Simsbury Police Department responded to a roll-over motor vehicle accident on Hopmeadow Street (Route 10) just south of West Street (Route 167) on Wednesday at 7:36 AM, police said in a release.

The driver of the vehicle that rolled over, later identified as Fred Mojica, fled the scene on foot immediately after the crash, police said.

Mojica forced entry into an occupied commercial building at 10 Mill Pond Lane by breaking a window, less than one-half a mile from the accident location, police said.

Employees in the building were evacuated and Mojica was located hiding in the basement, police said.

He was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, possession of drugs (cocaine) and paraphernalia. He was also charged with third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, evading responsibility, and unsafe passing.

He was released on a $11,500 bond with a court appearance of December 11, 2014 in Enfield Court.
