• Beloved Simsbury Fire Official Retires After More Than 50 Years Of Service (patch.com) — Simsbury residents are marking the retirement of Volunteer Fire Company Deputy Chief Kevin Kowalski, who has stepped down after an extraordinary 51 years of service. Colleagues praised his leadership, professionalism, and countless late-night and early-morning responses that helped shape the department and support the community, and they're wishing him well as he begins his retirement.
   

• Defending Class L champion New Canaan is No. 1 preseason poll (collinsvillepress.com) — Simsbury High's football team opens its season Thursday, Sept. 10, with an away game at Middletown as part of a busy statewide kickoff slate. The preseason poll pegs New Canaan as the team to beat, but several Hartford-area programs, including Simsbury's future opponents, are expected to be strong contenders this fall.
   

• Ask Jhoni the Conservationist (sierraclub.org) — Simsbury was one of several Connecticut communities hosting free Black Birders Week events, connecting residents with birding, local history, and environmental justice. Conservation organizer Jhoni also highlights ongoing efforts to protect Remington Woods, youth outings, and fall opportunities for residents to join nature walks, bus tours, and statewide conservation committees focused on expanding access to healthy green spaces.
