Bucknell University, Lewisburg PA

  • Christofer Gschwind, from Simsbury, graduated from Bucknell University on May 21, 2017.
  • Bucknell University has released the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2016-17 academic year. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean's list recognition. Simsbury honorees are Emma Alfeld, John Bitterli, Patrick Long and Michael McNally.

  • Eileen Hoffman of Simsbury has been inducted into the Alexander Graham Bell (AGB) Honor Society. Eileen was one of 42 students inducted during ceremonies on the Curry College campus in April 2017.
    Founded in 1971, the objective of the Alexander Graham Bell Honor Society is to promote and recognize academic excellence at Curry College. The Society is named after the famous inventor, Alexander Graham Bell, who was an early chancellor at Curry College. Members serve as a resource for the Academic Deans and the faculty and recommend ways the academic environment of the College can be enriched. The Alexander Graham Bell Honor Society is one of Curry's most distinguished organizations. Membership in the Society is limited to 10% of the senior class and five percent of the junior class, and all members must have a minimum 3.5 GPA overall and the required number of graded credits. For Continuing Education students, membership is limited to members of the graduating class who have achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA and completed a minimum of 45 classroom credits at Curry College. Students must also be active citizens either at Curry or in their local communities.
  • Eileen Hoffman of Simsbury has been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2017 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must earn a 3.30 GPA, have no incompletes, and have no grade lower than a "C" for the semester. Full-time students must carry 12 or more graded credits for the semester.

Merrimack College, North Andover MA

  • Approximately 650 undergraduate students received their respective degrees during Merrimack College's 67th Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 21. Among the graduates were Paul Sullivan and Christopher Towles of Simsbury.

Springfield College, Springfield MA

  • Springfield College recently held its commencement weekend. At the graduate commencement, 658 master's degrees, six certificates of advanced graduate study, 15 Doctor of Philosophy degrees, 34 Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees, and five Doctor of Psychology degrees were awarded. At the undergraduate commencement, 873 bachelor's degrees were awarded for a two-day total of 1591 degrees. Simsbury graduates were Austin Weiss, bachelor's of science degree in Business Management; Conor Molinare, bachelor's of science degree in Computer Graphics/Digital Arts; Adam Ziewacz, master's of education degree in Education; and John Connelly, master's of social work degree in Social Work.
  • Springfield College has named Conor Molinare of Simsbury to the dean's list for academic excellence for the spring 2017 term. Molinare is studying Computer Graphics/Digital Arts. Criteria for selection to the dean's list requires that the student must have a minimum semester grade point average of 3.500 for the semester.

University of Rhode Island, Kingston RI

  • The University of Rhode Island recently selected John Sacala of Simsbury and 37 other students to be part of the 2017 Orientation Team. Sacala has been chosen for the Orientation Leader role. A highly competitive position and unique leadership opportunity, URI's Orientation Team members serve as ambassadors to incoming students and families. They facilitate workshops and information sessions related to URI's academics, social environment and culture. The team helps with all aspects of the summer program including academic advising, workshop presentations, and URI's unique theatrical productions.

University of Scranton, Scranton PA

  • Alexandra E. Carter of Simsbury was among the more than 800 bachelor's and associate's degrees at its undergraduate commencement on May 28 at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre. Carter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in counseling and human services.

University of Vermont, Burlington VT

  • Three students from Simsbury have been named to the University of Vermont Dean's List: Annabelle Iler, Katelyn Paddock and Nicholas Bredice. To be named to the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.

Wesleyan University, Middletown CT

  • A pair of Simsbury students graduated from Wesleyan University on May 28, 2017: Grace McCann, BA in Biology and Neuroscience & Behavior who received Honors in Neuroscience & Behavior; and Gwendolyn Pastor, BA in Philosophy and Sociology.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • Megan Hanshaw of Weatogue, a member of the class of 2018 majoring in civil engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense, hands-on research project in London. The project was titled Feasibility Study of the Regeneration of Lot's Ait. In their project summary, the students wrote, "The purpose of this project was to conduct a feasibility study for the London Borough of Hounslow Council to identify the market, technical and organizational, financial, and social components of regenerating the island Lot's Ait."
