SIMSBURY, CT — The public is invited to attend a premier showing of “Simsbury Veterans Memorial” on Saturday, September 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury.
This 45-minute documentary was produced by members of the Simsbury Veterans Memorial Committee and filmed by SCTV, Simsbury Community Television. The Memorial Committee is comprised of members of the Metacomet Post 1926, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Simsbury and American Legion Post 84, Simsbury.
The documentary shows how the vision for this memorial began, its design phases, the fundraising for it, the way it was built and the dedication on Veterans Day 2016. It also features footage from the granite fabrication and engraving at the Rock of Ages in Barre, Vermont.

“This documentary is to give those who supported the memorial insight into why this project was important to the community veteran organizations, behind the scene details about the site preparation and the granite cutting and engraving. We also show the perspective of the memorial from the design architect. This is our way of archiving our work for future generations,” stated John Fox, senior producer and committee treasurer.
A portion of the funds raised for this memorial were from pavers for the walkway bought by the public engraved with the name of their veteran friend or family member. There will be additional pavers laid later this year and can be purchased at the viewing or by downloading the form online at: www.simsburyveteransmemorial.com until September 14.
