UPDATES: Police Continue Investigation into Simsbury Woman's Death on Iron Horse Blvd.

A police investigation shut down Iron Horse Boulevard after about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Update 8:14 p.m.:

Simsbury police are continuing to investigate how town resident Melissa Millan, 54, died after some kind of event on Iron Horse Boulevard Thursday night.

Her injuries don’t seem to be consistent with being hit by a motor vehicle, Simsbury police Capt. Nick Boulter said, according to a report on the CTNow website.

Millan worked at MassMutual insurance company since 2001, and most recently had headed a division for work site insurance, according to various reports. A company spokesman released this statement:

“MassMutual is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague, Melissa Millan, senior vice president,” spokesman David Potter said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Melissa’s family during this extremely difficult time. Melissa’s tremendous leadership qualities, business acumen and deeply caring nature will be missed by those who had the opportunity to work with her.”

Simsbury police ask that anyone with information or who may have seen something on that street Thursday to call police detectives at 860-658-3145.

Update 12:56 p.m.

At 8:04 p.m., Simsbury police first received a report that a woman was found on the roadway of Iron Horse Boulevard, according to a report in the Hartford Courant.

The woman, later identified as Melissa Millan, 54, of Simsbury, was then taken to St. Francis Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Early reports that a bicycle was involved in the accident were incorrect, according to the FoxCT News website.

Update 12:49 p.m.:

Melissa Millan, 54, who was found on Iron Horse Boulevard, is a Simsbury resident, the CBS Connecticut website reports.

Update 12:44 p.m.:

Simsbury police have identified the Thursday night fatality on Iron Horse Boulevard as Melissa Millan, 54, who was rushed to a hospital after she was found at about 8 p.m., according to NBC Connecticut.

According to the report: She passed away at the hospital, and she may have been walking or jogging at the time. Police are investigating the possibility that her death had a cause other than a hit-and-run accident.

Simsbury police are asking that anyone with information or who may have seen something on that street Thursday to call police detectives at 860-658-3145.

Update 9:30 a.m.:

A woman either riding a bicycle, walking or running on Iron Horse Boulevard was struck and killed by a vehicle that left the scene sometime Thursday evening, according to various reports.

As of early Friday morning, police continuing to investigate the accident and shut down the street between its intersections with Phelps Lane and Pent Road, according to NBC Connecticut.

Although WFSB-TV reported that the woman was on a bicycle, NBC Connecticut reports the woman was jogging or walking along the road and that the matter was first reported to police at about 8 p.m. by a driver who stopped at the scene.

Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle but have not released any information about it to the public. Police are asking that anyone with information about the accident to call them, according to NBC Connecticut.

Simsbury police are investigating an “untimely death” involving a person on a bicycle on Iron Horse Boulevard, according to a report on WFSB-TV.

The State Police Major Crimes Squad was assisting Simsbury police in the investigation Thursday, with a van from the squad still parked on the street early Friday morning. Police were “taking measurements” on the road, which is in the area of downtown and along a popular biking and walking trail.
