Simsbury High School Honors Seniors for Academic Excellence
Three National Merit semifinalists and 21 Commended Scholars were honored by their principal at a breakfast.

Simsbury High School principal Andrew O’Brien hosted a breakfast reception honoring students in the senior class being acknowledged for their academic excellence on Oct. 22. The young people honored have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement as recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program and the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Simsbury High School is very proud to announce the names of this year’s National Merit Semifinalists: Isabel Bielat, Maya Brody, and Keith Penney. These three seniors have earned the National Merit Semifinalist designation and will continue in the 2016 National Merit competition and potentially qualify for Finalist distinction.
Twenty-one seniors were honored at the reception for being named Commended Scholars: Melissa Acheson, Mitchell Ball, Cameron Cantelmo, Brian Chen, Maia Czaikowski, Matthew Donohue, William Fallon, Sophia Firestone, Maryanne Gunn, David Harshaw, Halley Haruta, Alexander Marcktell, Denis McCarthy, Sean Russell, Kelsey Sullivan, Wei-Ling Sun, Ryan Taylor, Raven Vella, James Wallace, Dana Winslow, and Nicholas Winslow.

Only 34,000 students across the nation are named National Merit Commended Students, and the recognition honors their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the PSAT.
