Will Simsbury Allow Cannabis sales? Hearing Monday Could Provide A Clue
The town is mulling a new ordinance prohibiting retail pot sales in town for at least 18 more months as it weighs the idea's future.
SIMSBURY, CT — A proposed ordinance to extend a retail pot sales moratorium by another 18 months is set to take place Monday at Simsbury Town Hall.
The Simsbury Board of Selectmen is having a special public hearing on the subject on Monday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. in the main meeting room. Simsbury Town Hall is at 933 Hopmeadow St.
The ordinance is called "An Ordinance Prohibiting Cannabis Retail Establishments." Selectmen are expected to vote on the ordinance once the hearing is closed.

It would temporarily prohibit the retail sale of cannabis for 18 months following adoption unless extended by selectmen.
Like many communities, Simsbury is trying to figure out if it wants to ban retail pot sales, which are now legal in Connecticut, permanently or allow them.

Some towns are embracing the idea along economic development lines, while others are concerned about negative impacts associated with having folks buying pot in town.
