Donations Pour In For Seriously Burned Diner Owner

Peter Homick recently suffered serious burns to 28 percent of his body when a fryer accidentally tipped over at the Laurel Diner.

SOUTHBURY, CT -- Peter Homick, owner of Southbury's Laurel Diner, recently suffered serious burns over 28 percent when a fryer accidentally tipped over. As he recovers, hundreds of people have generously stepped up to help him and his wife, Stephanie, with their family expenses.

Homick's sister-in-law, Bianca DeSimone, created a GoFundMe page for donations, and as of June 7, $26,900 has been raised, shattering the goal of $10,000. The diner is temporarily closed while Homick recuperates from the accident, so the donations are a tremendous help.

In a message of thanks posted to the page and on the diner's Facebook page, Homick wrote that he will be forever grateful for the generosity so many people have shown him and his wife.

"These donations have taken the burden off of my shoulders. It is hard for me to accept the fact that I physically cannot work right now. I am forever grateful for every donation, every kind word, and every prayer."
