Mystery Surrounds Death of Southbury Father and Son

Dennis Fitzsimmons, 74, was killed by his son, Timothy Fitzsimmons, 43, who also died later the same day, according to police.

Dennis Fitzsimmons, 74, was killed by his son, Timothy Fitzsimmons, 43, on Thursday, and state and Southbury police are continuing to piece together the circumstances of the crime.

The elder Fitzsimmons was strangled and beaten, but how the younger Fitzsimmons died 90 minutes later might not be known for weeks, reports the Waterbury Republican-American.

The two men were partners in a failed, 15-year-old bar and restaurant called the Misfitz Inn, which may offer some clues to what happened. But despite the financial hardship, the father and son appeared to be close.

“Believe it or not, they were tight,” Roger Kelly, whose family owned the building where the restaurant was located, told the Republican-American. “When anyone had a disagreement with Dennis, the son always sided with his father. That’s what good sons do.”
