Southbury Police Officers Acquiring More Body Cameras

The cameras preserve evidence in a secure manner.

First Selectman Edward Edelson told the Board of Selectmen that the Police Department is continuing in its quest to more body cameras to its uniforms, according to meeting minutes.

Edelson said the Police Department has chosen to outfit our officers with body cameras as opposed to fixed vehicle cameras, meeting minutes states.

Corporal Hughes explained that the Police Department has recently purchased body cameras and reviewed the benefits of using them. Corporal Grillo explained that the cameras are helpful in reviewing any incidents that may occur, meeting minutes states.

The camera pairs with smart phones and uploads directly to the “cloud”.

The policy for use of the body cameras is written and has been approved by the State Police. This technology allows for the preservation of evidence in a secure manner, meeting minutes state. The cost is approximately $499 per body camera and the hope is to acquire ten more, bringing the count to 20.
