The weather service predicts that the heavy wet snow combined with some sleet and freezing rain could make travel treacherous and the weight of the snow could knock down some tree limbs and power lines.

Like you, I’m hoping the forecast doesn’t change again.

It’s beginning to become clear based on the latest National Weather Center forecast that this will be far from the storm of the century for Southbury, or actually even a significant snowstorm.

But because of how little snow we’ve received thus far this winter, it’s definitely getting a lot of attention, and the potential for icing complicates matters as evidenced by last weekend.

A winter weather advisory has been issued beginning at midnight running until 6 p.m. Saturday for a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Snow is still expected at this time to accumulate 3-5 inches with a trace amount of ice mixed in. The heaviest snow mixed with sleet, and freezing rain is forecast for Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon.

Southbury’s hour-by-hour forecast

Snow showers are expected to begin around 2 a.m. in Southbury and by 4 a.m. it will be steady snow continuing through 6 a.m.

From 7-9 a.m. the snow will turn to a wintry mix, but it will return as all snow from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Snow begins to taper off as light snow by 4 p.m. and then as snow showers by 6 p.m.
