Famed Marathon Runner to Attend Southington Apple Harvest Races
A famed Runner is back as a frequent visitor and participant in a popular Southington running event.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — One of the greatest American distance runners of all time is scheduled to come to the Apple Harvest Festival Road Races in Southington, officials from the Southington Community YMCA said on Monday.
Bill Rogers will be in attendance and running in the Apple Harvest Festival Road Races on Oct 1, organizers said. Rogers is an American marathon runner and former marathon record holder. He is best known for winning both the New York and Boston marathons four times each.
Rogers first attended the races many years ago when his sister lived in Southington.

“I really enjoy the Apple Harvest Festival Road races as they are the epitome of the best in sports, and
I guess symbolic of the Y itself," Rogers said. "It’s all about family and friends. To me road races, like the Apple Harvest Festival Road Races, are the very best of events. Friends meet and celebrate their kids, enjoy tasty food and salute the youth of the community. See you in October.”
Rogers will run, visit with runners and sign autographs, organizers said.
