New Car Seat Laws Part of Back to School Preparations

A tighter child vehicle restraint law goes into effect on October.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Part of the back to school preparations in Connecticut revolve around a new child car seat law that enhances requirements for age and weight.

The new requirements take effect October 1.

Rear Facing

  • Until Age 2 and until 30 pounds

Southington police this week shared a graphic created by Safe in the Car outlining the new law and reminding drivers of the changes.

The new law was adopted during the past legislative session. See the justification for the new requirements at the Connecticut General Assembly website.

According to the bill that became the new car seat law, 73 percent of car seats are installed improperly or misused, supporting the need for new legislation.
