• Southington Water Main Flushing Starts Monday; Streets Could See Discoloration (patch.com) — Southington residents should be prepared for possible temporary water discoloration as Southington Water Works begins its fall water main flushing program Monday evening, Sept. 28. Dozens of local streets and connecting roads are slated for flushing through Oct. 3, and the work will continue as long as temperatures allow. Officials urge residents to check their water before doing laundry and to call the department with any questions.
   

• Hiker rescued from Ragged Mountain on Friday (nbcconnecticut.com) — Southington firefighters rescued a stranded hiker from a cliff on Ragged Mountain Friday evening after locating them about 80 feet above the ground. Dispatchers stayed on the phone throughout, crews used a high-angle rope system, and the hiker ultimately rappelled down with a firefighter and left the area uninjured by UTV escort.
