Man Found Dead In Smoky House Fire In Southington: SFD
The Southington Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that killed a man, and damaged a home Tuesday afternoon.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — The local fire department is investigating the cause of a smoky house fire Tuesday afternoon that claimed the life of a man and damaged a home on Darling Street.
The Southington Fire Department Wednesday morning released some details about what happened.
Southington Fire Chief Eric Heath Thursday confirmed a middle-aged man was killed in the fire.

"There was a victim/fatality on the scene," he wrote to Patch, adding the man was the lone occupant of the home at 86 Darling St.
Heath said the Southington Police Department is investigating with the SFD and the name of the victim has yet to be released.

According to the SFD, firefighters were dispatched to Darling Street at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of large amounts of smoke coming from a home.
The caller reporting the fire was a neighbor, firefighters said.
Responding fire department units were on the scene of the blaze within 2 minutes, according to the SFD.
Mutual aid units from Meriden and Bristol were also sent to the scene, with New Britain, Plainville and Cheshire units covering Southington during the blaze.
The SFD said firefighters quickly put out the fire and ventilated the building.
"SFD and the mutual aid Companies worked together to complete the extinguishment and overhaul of the fire," wrote the SFD.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire remains under investigation by the Southington Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office, Southington Police Department, and the State of Connecticut Fire and Explosive Investigation Unit.
