Southington man Charged for Unemployment Fraud

A Southington man has been arrested in an unemployment fraud case.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Southington man was arrested today and charged with fraudulently collecting more than $12,000 in Unemployment Compensation benefits, officials from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice said.

Adam Schloesser, 47, of Southington was arrested by inspectors from the Unemployment Compensation Fraud Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney and charged with one count each of first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community and felony unemployment compensation frraud.

The arrest is the result of an investigation into a complaint by the Connecticut Department of Labor, which administers the Unemployment Compensation program, officials said.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Schloesser under-reported the wages he earned from working in order to fraudulently collect approximately $12,384 in unemployment benefits from July 2013 through March 2015.

Schloesser was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on April 17, authorities said.

He faces up to 20 years in prison for the first charge and up to 5 for the second, authorities said.
