Southington Man's Bracket Pure Madness As He Wins ESPN Challenge

Richard Marchese picked a Villanova win over UNC.

SOUTHINGTON, CT - Resident Richard Marchese has won ESPN’s March Madness Tournament Challenge, the Recond-Journal reported.

Marchese finished in the top 1 percent of brackets and was then selected by lottery as the contest winner, according to the story.

His winning include a trip for two to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational basketball tournament in Hawaii in November and a $10,000 Amazon gift card, according to the R-J.

The University of Connecticut will be one of the teams participating in the tournament.

Richard told the newspaper he has been filling out March Madness brackets for about 10 years. In one bracket, he actually picked Villanova to beat North Carolina in the national championship.

ESPN has been running its Tournament Challenge for about 20 years, ESPN communications director Kevin told the newspaper he believes Marchese is the first Tournament Challenge winner from the area and state.
