Southington Police Joining Distracted Driving Crackdown
It's that time of year again when police look extra hard for texting drivers.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Police Department will be joining forces across the country to intensify enforcement of state and local texting and distracted-driving laws, and to raise awareness about the dangers — and legal implications — of distracted driving.
The annual campaign is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "U Drive. U Text. U Pay" campaign.
The high-visibility enforcement effort will runs from Oct. 15 through Oct. 31.

Violating Connecticut’s distracted-driving laws can be costly, Southington police said. That means $200 for a first offense, $375 for a second offense and $625 for a third or subsequent offense with all fines doubled within a construction zone.
