Southington Police: Tasers, Pepper Spray and K-9 Had Little Effect on Man Attacking Officers

Police responded to a report of an assault. Officers and a K-9 were attacked during the incident.

Officers had a tough time taking down a man who was allegedly caught beating another man in Southington, according to police.

Police responded to a Vernon Road address on April 12 around 1:42 a.m. on a report of a man yelling in a driveway. A person reported that Matthew Dufresne, 46, of Bristol was beating another man, according to police.

Officers entered the residence and found Dufresne attacking the man, police said. He then turned his attention on officers and began to attack them.

Police deployed tasers, pepper spray, a baton and a K-9 in an attempt to subdue him. All had little effect.

Eventually police got him to the ground and handcuffed him. He and the victim were taken to the hospital for treatment.

An officer was injured during the incident and the K-9 was being checked for injuries as well.

Dufresne was arrested and charged with second-degree breach of peace, interfering with police and two counts of assault on police. He was held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
